    Job Summary

    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical care, RC responsibility and treatment for patients in Rose ward and across other wards, while also providing clinical leadership to the team across the wards. The post holder will work as a member of the OPMH inpatient team based on two inpatient areas of the Gosport War Memorial Hospital alongside a part-time consultant and three Resident doctors as well as a middle Grade doctor.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    The Trust expects consultants to participate in all aspects of clinical governance and ensure their involvement in service planning and development, including wider developments in service provision and local academic meetings and teaching and training opportunities. Consultants will work with other senior clinical team members to ensure that colleagues understand the professional status and specialty of all team members, their roles and responsibilities in the team, and who is responsible for each aspect of patient care.

    Additionally, the consultant will work with other senior clinical team members to ensure that staff are clear about their individual and team objectives, their personal and collective responsibilities for patient and public safety, and for openly and honestly recording and discussing problems. Effective communication with colleagues within and outside the team is essential, ensuring that arrangements are in place for relevant information to be passed on to the team promptly.

    Job Description

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    This sector-based pathway service role encompasses comprehensive patient care across the entire treatment spectrum.     Role Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Leadership

    Provide compassionate medical leadership in the Perinatal Mental Health Service, including frequent/regular meetings with clinical staff to plan and co-ordinate clinical workload. Attend and lead MDT meetings, governance processes, and service development initiatives.

    Patient Care

    Contribute to collaborative care and risk management planning processes for relevant patients’ management, including regular liaison with practitioners within and outside of the service. Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based, specialist perinatal medical/psychiatric assessments and reviews to inform care planning and risk assessment/management.

    Service Development

    Help the Multi-Disciplinary teams in further developing evidence-based, trauma-informed assessment and treatment pathways to offer women/birthing people and their families. We operate from biopsychosocial and attachment-oriented frameworks of understanding, and medical leadership is a vital component of our service.

    Essential Qualifications

    Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (ST6 trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of interview) or CESR equivalent. Experience in General Adult Psychiatry with some experience working with women in the perinatal period.

    Essential Experience

    Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and provide clinical leadership.

    MRCPsych or equivalent qualification. Additional training or certification in perinatal psychiatry would be advantageous.

    Supervision and Training

    As the role progresses, there will be opportunity to supervise an Assistant Psychologist and contribute to wider team training and mentoring. CPD access includes therapeutic modalities such as CBT, ACT, EMDR, and Mindfulness, with ongoing development strongly encouraged.

    Essential Qualifications

    Applicants must possess Doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those who commenced training prior to September 2001) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).     Knowledge Requirements
