This is a replacement post offering 10 programmed activities and will complete a team of seven consultant histopathologists.     Job Plan Structure

    The job plan consists of 10 programmed activities with a split of DCC (Dedicated Clinical Commitment) and SPA (Specialty and Professional Activities). Specifically, 7.5 PAs will be allocated to DCC duties and 2.5 PAs to SPA activities. The DCC includes cut-up, diagnostic reporting, MDT meetings, internal peer case reviews, external referrals, administration, and NHS autopsies.

    SPA Allocation

    The SPA component is made up of 1 PA of core activities (appraisal, revalidation, CME, routine departmental meetings) and non-core activities. Non-core SPA may reflect activities such as educational supervision, research, leadership and quality improvement. Further allocation of up to 2.5 SPA is available for specific roles with defined objectives.

    Qualifications

A proven background in organising and delivering undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and research is highly desirable for this role.

    Leadership and Management

    The ability to motivate and develop training of medical and non-medical staff is essential. Candidates should be able to work independently as well as part of the Pathology Division and balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole.

    Health Requirements

    Applicants must be in good health and demonstrate immunisation against Hepatitis B, plus proof of Hepatitis B antigen negative status. This is a mandatory requirement for all clinical staff in pathology departments.

    Research and Audit

    Candidates must be able to appraise research and have a thorough understanding of the principles of audit. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of cellular pathology are desirable but not essential for this position.

The centre saw a large expansion in 2012, co-locating chemotherapy and out-patient services alongside radiotherapy. A second chemotherapy unit was opened in 2017 at the Chorley site, continuing the investment into Oncology services in the organisation. In late 2021, our dedicated 24-bedded oncology Ribblesdale ward was fully refurbished.
