    Essential Qualifications

    To be considered for this role, applicants must hold registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).     The post holder will lead the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and will participate in audit.     Essential Qualifications

    RSCN/RN (child) and current NMC Registration is required for this position. Candidates must also have completed a Children & Young people’s diabetes care module or equivalent qualification. A Teaching and Assessing qualification/mentorship course is also essential.

    The successful candidate must be a current practice assessor and supervisor on the live database and provide evidence of ongoing continuing professional development. A Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification or willingness to undertake this is also required.

    Desirable Qualifications

    While not essential, candidates with a Management qualification, Masters degree or equivalent, or Counselling qualification would be particularly welcomed. These additional qualifications would support the development of specialist skills in this challenging role.

    Essential Experience

    Professional Clinical knowledge acquired through significant experience at Band 6 or above is essential for this position. Candidates must have significant experience of caring for children and young people with Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes.

    About the Role

    This is a community post working with an established community Learning Disability mental health team serving the Sunderland area. The consultant in post will work closely with the community team to provide senior expertise in assessment and treatment of adults with learning disability referred with psychiatric, behavioural concerns.

    As part of this role, there is a population of Learning Disability Forensic patients living within Sunderland area for whom the post holder will have responsibility. The community learning disabilities team is based at Monkwearmouth Hospital Sunderland, and the post holder will have good links with other consultant colleagues within learning disability services.

    Currently, there is one specialty doctor working within Sunderland community learning disability in addition to the current vacant post. The team has access to a comprehensive Multidisciplinary team including community nurses with specialist areas of expertise including Forensic, Autism, Primary Care and Behavioural, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, and an Occupational Therapist.

    The post holder will be working across three pathways which include:
